Accommodation Near Your Workplace

Accommodation near your workplace can be provided on request. But you can also look for a flat yourself.

For many people who come to Germany to work, finding housing is the biggest obstacle. Without proof of creditworthiness and without contacts on site, it is hard to find a flat. That is why we support you with this from the very beginning.

Accommodation on request

Accommodation near your workplace can be provided on request – in all our regions: Göttingen, Hanover and Paderborn. Simply tick the box in the questionnaire to say that you need accommodation. We will discuss the details in the first interview.

This is an offer, not an obligation. If you already have a flat in Germany or would rather live on your own, you can look for a flat yourself.

What to expect

The exact conditions depend on the city and the available places. That is why we describe the accommodation in detail in our conversation with you. In general:

  • furnished accommodation;
  • usually shared accommodation: several colleagues live together and share the kitchen and bathroom;
  • often two people share a room – we cannot promise a room of your own or a flat of your own;
  • the location is chosen so that you can get to your workplace easily;
  • the basics (bed, wardrobe, kitchen) are usually there.

Before you move, ask about everything that is important to you – for example, where the accommodation is and how many people live there.

If you look yourself

Finding your own flat is possible, but it takes time. Some tips:

  • start looking early, especially in larger cities;
  • ask at the viewing whether you will get a landlord’s confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung);
  • read the rental contract carefully before you sign;
  • do not transfer money to strangers before you have seen the flat and the contract.

Landlord’s confirmation and registration

Anyone who moves into a home in Germany must register at the citizens’ office (Bürgeramt) within two weeks. For this you need a confirmation from the person or company that provides the home – the landlord’s confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung).

This is how it works:

  1. You move in.
  2. The landlord or the management fills out and signs the landlord’s confirmation.
  3. You book an appointment at the citizens’ office.
  4. You bring your passport or ID card and the confirmation to the appointment.

If you live in accommodation provided by us, we make sure that you receive this confirmation. You can read more about this under Moving and registration.

House rules

When several people live together, simple rules help. Common rules are:

  • keeping the kitchen, bathroom and hallway tidy and clean;
  • quiet hours at night (in Germany usually from 10 pm to 6 am);
  • correct waste separation – very important in Germany;
  • airing the rooms regularly so that no damp builds up;
  • consideration for neighbours and housemates;
  • visitors only by arrangement.

You will receive the exact rules for your accommodation when you move in. If something is broken or there are problems, contact us – we will help find a solution.

How to request accommodation

Fill out the questionnaire and state that you need accommodation. We will contact you and talk about jobs and accommodation. You can read how the whole process works under How it works.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to live in the accommodation you offer?
No. Accommodation can be provided on request, but you can look for a flat or room yourself at any time.

Yes. If you live in accommodation provided by us, you receive the landlord's confirmation (Wohnungsgeberbestätigung) that you need for registration.
Can I live together with my partner?
That depends on the available places. Please state it in the questionnaire, and we will discuss the options in the first interview.
