Where is Diemelstadt?

Diemelstadt is a small town with about 5,200 inhabitants in the far north of Hesse, in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. The town is made up of nine districts, including Rhoden (where the town administration is) and Wrexen. Just beyond the town boundary, North Rhine-Westphalia begins.

The big advantage is the transport location: Diemelstadt has its own junction on the A44 motorway (Dortmund – Kassel). The federal roads B7, B68 and B252 also run through the region. Approximate distances (by road, depending on the district and route):

Getting there and commuting from the region

If you do not want to live in Diemelstadt itself, you can commute from the surrounding towns. The easiest way is by car or in a car pool – the region is rural, and buses do not run often everywhere.

  • Warburg: Warburg (Westfalen) station is the most important rail hub nearby, with long-distance and regional trains towards Paderborn, Kassel and Hagen. From there it is about 15 km to Diemelstadt.
  • Marsberg: train station on the line towards Hagen/Kassel, quickly reached via the B7 or A44.
  • Bad Arolsen and Volkmarsen: to the south, in the same district. By car you are in Diemelstadt in a short time.
  • Korbach: district town with more shops, but a longer commute.
  • Paderborn and Kassel: larger cities with more to offer. The drive via the A44 is possible, but much longer. Read more about Paderborn on our page Work in Paderborn.

Important: The former station in Wrexen has been closed since the 1970s – Diemelstadt has no train station of its own today. Bus connections are provided by the North Hesse transport association (NVV). Check the NVV timetable in advance to see whether a connection fits your journey to work. With the Deutschlandticket you can use local public transport all over Germany.

Living in the region

Diemelstadt and the neighbouring towns are small, quiet places with lots of nature – forests, fields and the Diemel valley. If you are looking for big-city life, you will not find it here. But if you like peace and quiet and do not need many distractions, you will soon feel at home.

  • Shopping: There are supermarkets and discount stores in the region for daily needs. You will find a bigger choice in Warburg, Bad Arolsen, Marsberg or Korbach.
  • Doctors and authorities: There are family doctors and pharmacies in the surrounding towns. The town administration of the place where you live is responsible for address registration (Anmeldung).
  • Getting around: A car or a car pool makes everyday life much easier.

Life in a small town is usually quieter than in big urban areas, and you can focus on your work.

Accommodation can be provided if needed. Just mention it when you apply. You can find more information on the page Accommodation.
